Organic Farming: Will India Benefit From It?

By Rob Sutter

I believe that there is much to be said about organic farming in this day and age. After all, the crops in question are in such high demand and the presence of fresh food is something that has been able to be seen all around the world. After reading a recent article, it has dawned on me that India is slowly but surely starting to see this level of farming come about to a great extent as well. I was not too sure about the details but the report, to say the least, intrigued me.

A recent article went into detail about the Economic Times and how it seems as though organic farming has seen a great increase in India. Keep in mind that society, in general, is becoming far more focused on the presence of healthy food, so it's not too surprising that fruits and vegetables would be able to come in effect. In addition, take into account how health-conscious India, in particular, has become. This is where organics come into play and they are ones which networks like Colle Farmers Market are able to endorse.

I do not think that anyone can say anything about the ways in which these particular crops are able to attain the attention of the public. I didn't realize how true this was until I read the article, as it seems as though growers have been able to attain 118% higher price for the leafy vegetables that have been grown. Considering that 53% have been seen from grains, it's apparent that the former statistic stands tall. To me, this speaks volumes about the demand that is tied into produce.

In fact, the relationship between the grower and the consumer is easily one of the most organic that you can imagine, ironically enough. Keep in mind that farmers, typically, have to make their business on a local basis, meaning that they have to appeal to those who live nearby. In return, consumers are able to do business with growers, making absolutely certain that they are paid for their efforts. Giving business to a smaller establishment holds a bevy of incentives that work to help both parties.

It goes without saying that India has been able to benefit tremendously from the growth of organic farming efforts seen. It is one of the most economic choices that have been made but I feel as though the idea of health is something that should be focused on as well. It seems as though various crops have been able to come to the surface, each of them able to help potential consumers. With India's focus on this level of farming strong, other areas may soon follow suit.
