Identify the learning style of the person you are nursing. People have different learning style, for instance, there are people who learn faster when they watch a video while other prefer reading. You can inquire from an individual which way they learn best. After identifying the learning style that they prefer, make sure that you utilize this style to the maximum.

We are living in a modern society where everything is digitalized. Make a point of using the modern technology available to elaborate and make learning easier. A simple example is using tablets and phones to download reading materials for the patients to read. The patients can also get the opportunity to record the learning sessions in their phones or tablets.

People suffering from chronic diseases may view the learning as a waste of time. They may also find it tedious due to their health conditions. However, as a nurse, it is your responsibility to stimulate this person to find the learning enjoyable and beneficial. The best way to do this is by telling them the benefits of learning how to manage their conditions.

Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your patients in advance. Once you have identified this, it will allow you to identify the best way to teach them. For instance, when dealing with very elderly people, make sure that you are very patient. The type of medical condition that an individual is suffering from also determines how best to teach them.

Family members and friends should also join in when you are teaching the patients. The patients may be sick, and might not be able to get all the information during the lessons. The family members and friends will be of great help to the patients, they will learn how to help the patients.

Make the learning experience fun and engaging. Allow your patients to ask questions and give their opinions. When they fail to engage in the learning process, they will get bored and will not understand or recall what they have learned. Making the learning session, fun also improves the relationship that you have with your patients.

The health of patients is not only determined by the type of health care they receive but also how they take care of their selves.
