Avoid Skin Cancer With Sun Sunless Tanning Lotion

More people than models and body builders are using Sun sunless tanning lotion. Many men and women prefer this product before they go to the gym, rather than baking their skin in a bed. Even though these products fade, over time, as the epidermis wears away, this is still the safest way to achieve tanned beautiful skin, as dermatologists world wide recommend people avoid excessive contact with the sun or sunning beds.

This kind of lotion impact the outermost layer of skin, known as the epidermis. They do not damage the sensitive under layers of the dermis as the sun can. A really bad sunburn can do damage deep into the lower dermal layers, aging skin through the years, and even causing melanoma, a life-threatening cancer of the skin.

The most effective products on the market contain a chemical called DHA, or dihydroxyacetone. This chemical is actually a sugar which reacts with the very outer layer of the epidermis, causing a change in the color of skin cells. This change wears away pretty quickly as skin is sloughed off, however, and it is generally recommended to reapply the product every three days in order to maintain the tanned look.

There are also many pills and sprays on the market which contain a chemical called tyrosine. It is said that this chemical increases the amount of melanin in the skin, thus accelerating the process of tanning. Unfortunately, there is not yet any scientific data to confirm that these claims are true, although there are still consumers who swear by it.

Canthaxanthin, a chemical used in food dyes, is sometimes utilized as an agent to darken skin. The Food and Drug Administration will not approve the product for this use, however. This particular product carries some pretty serious side effects, and people are warned not to use it.

When taking this internally for the purpose of darkening the skin, canthaxanthin must be taken in doses much higher than would ever be found in food products. It results in an orange-brown color to skin, and may result in canthaxanthin retinopathy, which is a yellowing of the eyes. In addition, this has been connected with some people developing hepatitis infection, which can be a fatal disease.

There are some creams and bronzing agents which are very popular as well, but they do not create a permanent coloring. It is more like a cosmetic, as it can be washed away with soap and water. Some spray tans are utilized, especially by body builders, and this coloring lasts a little longer, but it does wear off with bathing.

None of these products, including Sun sunless tanning lotion, are recommended as UVA or UVB protection from the rays of the actual sun. They are intended as means to temporarily color the skin; however, they are not made for the beach. One is advised to wear extra sunscreen when they go out to the beach or the pool.
