How To Select A Quality Hair Salon Styling Chair

By Jeff Truitt

Not too long ago salon chairs were a basic piece of salon equipment. Much like a hair dryer or clipper. They were a place for clients to sit and be raised high enough to work on. Nothing more was expected from them. They were made to blend into the look of any average salon.

A few years later the salon business changed. Salons were no longer a place to get a haircut they were a place to relax and be pampered. They turned into a spa atmosphere where looks matter as much or more than doing quality work. This meant the basic functional chair is totally outdated and needed to be replaced.

Today the ambiance of a hair salon is what attracts clients. The furnishings play a major part in creating this ambiance. The chair you select needs to complete the look of your salon and can even be a big part of branding for your business. This decision is not to be taken lightly because your chairs plays a bigger role than ever before. Not only must it function without fail for years of daily use it need look good doing it.

The first place most owners will look is the local supply store. They usually carry the same product line they has for 20 years which is outdated and not what is in style today. They have nothing that will set your salon apart and add to the atmosphere. The next step is looking online where China made chairs dominate the search results. While the styles are nice the flaw is in the workmanship. Most china made products are based on saving cost. They use lower cost and quality materials which look great in a photo but fall short in actual use.

Most China manufacturers are focused on price. They copy designed of other companies and build a basic frame that gets covered with low cost materials and fitted with low cost hardware. While it looks fine in the photo the reality is the materials don't last. Days or weeks after you start using the chair the cushion material begins to flatten out. Soon all the comfort is gone and the chair looks old. The hydraulic lift begins to get weak and can't lift up a normal size person. Within a year it starts to leak fluid on the floor.

The best option is going with a higher end chair because the materials are made to last and function for many years to come. As mentioned before the cushion is made to last and never go flat. The mechanical parts are stronger and won't bend and break. The chair functions as wanted and had a solid resale value when you are ready for a new look.
